Hi, I’m Elyn Desiree
I’m a Ghanaian writer and published poet. Writing became a part of me when I wrote my first story at six years old, tucked into the back of a school notebook. Poetry came much later, somewhere in the middle of medical school, when I fell in love with poems shared by my roommate and other poets on Instagram.
I’m a woman made up of two worlds, and writing is the one I keep coming back to outside of everything else life asks of me.
This blog is where I share what I’ve learned along the way. I’m still learning too, picking things up through experience, through research, through getting things wrong and figuring out a better way. When I learn something useful, I don’t like sitting on it. There’s something genuinely satisfying about knowing someone else might read a post here and skip a mistake I had to learn the hard way, or feel a little more confident in their own writing because of it.
Outside of writing, I’m almost always reading. My Kindle is full of novels on my TBR list (yes, buying books is a hobby too), and I read poetry collections often. I’m also deep into Korean dramas (Ji Chang Wook is my favourite Korean actor, no contest), and spend a fair amount of time being ignored by my cats while I try to get anything done.
